To be honest, Granville Island is not a location I would normally recommend first as an engagement spot. Because it is a popular touristy and local destination, it can get super busy. Especially when the weather is clear, finding parking can be quite a nightmare. However, it is busy for a reason, it's a gem in the heart of Vancouver. Beyond the busyness, there are a lot of great reasons why it is a great option to consider for your engagement session.

First of all, I suggest scheduling the shoot during non-peak hours to minimize the amount of traffic. Consider the time of the year and when the market opens or closes. During this session, it was at the end of September so we were able to just catch the changing colours of the Fall leaves. This is a great time in Vancouver regardless but coupled with the all fun, quirky, and hidden walls and areas at Granville Island, it can make for a wonderful session with lots of photo opportunities. There are areas with heaps of greenery, other areas that are special and unique such as the sign under the bridge or the Love wall, and a lot of more fun and hidden spots that allow your creativity to run.

Another great thing about Granville Island is that it can be a great spot if rain is forecasted on the day of your session. There are spots that are covered, and spots that you can duck into in case the rain starts to come down. Click here to view a rainy engagement session at Granville Island.
