I don't often get to photograph a surprise proposal with a beautiful set-up, and a beautiful set-up this was, with the help of his sisters! You would think they did this for a living or does it as a side hustle but they just gathered things together and created this gorgeous assemble.

Similar to everything else, there are pros and cons. With a set-up like this it makes it less of a surprise. With all surprise proposals, the most difficult part is creating a reason or excuse to get to the spot at a particular time without being suspicious. The key is going with the flow, rolling with the punches and planning for as many scenarios as possible.

We were expecting rain for the proposal, we had umbrellas ready to go and even a tent to cover everything in case. Luckily we were presented with a colourful sunset instead! One tip I do have is to allot for extra time in case because we were running out of daylight quick. Keep that in mind when overcast and clouds are in the forecast. Another thing to consider is the location and if there are trees or mountains in the direction of the sunset as this would cover the setting sun sooner than if it were on a horizon. I highly recommend using an app like PhotoPills or SunCalc to look into the exact time and position of the sun.
